N.I.T. Lecture: Fokke Gerritsen and Rana Özbal

On the 8th of January, at 18:30, Fokke Gerritsen and Rana Özbal give a lecture on "Excavations at Barcın Höyük: A step towards understanding the Neolithic of Northwest Anatolia" at the Netherlands Institute Turkey. For more information, please visit  this page.

Jacques Tange Exhibition “On Foreign Ground’

Jacques Tange, who has won the ‘Artist of the Year Award’ in the Netherlands in 2005/2006, will exhibit at Gallery Art350 here in Istanbul from the 8th of January until the 15th of February. The title of his exhibition ‘On Foreign Ground’ refers to the fact that this is his first show in an unknown country for him, in other words, he is taking one step outside Europe. This adventure of change and exhibiting in a completely different country brings some questions into the artist’s mind and most importantly, he wonders how people will react to his work.

New Year’s Reception at the Consulate General

Every year the Consulate General hosts a new year’s reception in the beautiful Palais de Hollande to toast on the new year. This year’s reception will be on the 15th of January, from 18:00 to 20:00 (Please note that this event is for invitees only).

Book signing session Jessica Lutz

During the New Year’s reception in the Palais de Hollande on the 15th of January guests will also be in the opportunity to get a copy of ‘De Nederlandse Bruid’ signed by Jessica Lutz, Dutch journalist, novelist and fiction writer.

‘De Nederlandse Bruid’ is a novel about a Dutch woman, Emma, who marries a Turkish man and moves to a conservative Turkish-Kurdish region in Southeastern Anatolia. After being confronted with the backward position of women there, she commits herself to helping a little girl to improve her situation and to get basic education, which puts Emma’s marriage and even her own life on risk. Despite this story may be fictional, in real life this book also aims to improve the position of women in Turkey by donating a part of the revenue of the book to Çağdaş Yaşam Destekleme Derneği, an organization that provides educational grants to Turkish girls.

End of the Dutch contribution NATO Patriot Deployment

Under NATO command six Patriot missile batteries are operating in southern Turkey, effectively protecting its ally and 3.5 million people. After two years of service, the Dutch contribution of two batteries stationed in Adana will end this January. The Netherlands is looking back to two years of succesfull coöperation with its NATO ally Turkey, and is gratefull Spain is found as a succesor to the mission.

On the occasion of the end of this succesfull mission to aid Turkey's air defence, a reception with Dutch music will be hosted in Adana on the 26th of January, with the coöperation of the Ministry of Defence.

Suzanne Frijling: KUAD Seminars

During Wednesday afternoons from 11am -1pm of March (4/11/18/25) and April (1/8/15/22/29) KUAD GALLERY is openings a seminar by Suzanne Frijling. This art historian, born in the Netherlands and currently working in Istanbul, will talk about local and international art. The seminars will be focused on the introduction to Modernism, Post-Modernism and Contemporary Art. The seminars will be in English.

Concerts: Karsu       

Karsu begins the new year with many concerts. On the 7th of March she will visit Istanbul Zorlu Center to perform with her own band, followed by another one in Eskişehir on the 9th of March. Karsu combines jazz, blues, soul, funk and Turkish music to make what she calls ‘Karsu Music’. She has been elected as one of the 50 most prominent Turks in the Netherlands. The number 1 was Atilay Uslu, owner of Corendon Vliegvakanties and also sponsor of Karsu.

Prince Claus Awards: Gülsün Karamustafa

Contemporary Turkish artist Gülsün Karamustafa received one of the 2014 Prince Claus Awards, presented annually by the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development. Ambassador Ron Keller will host an award ceremony and a reception at the Palais de Hollande on Friday the 20th of March. Gülsün Karamustafa investigates ideas of mobility—displacement, immigration, expatriation, exile, and relocation. Her oeuvre includes painting, collage, installation, and video. A comprehensive survey of her work since the 1970s was installed SALT Beyoğlu and Galata in 2013. It included Karamustafa’s installation Mystic Transport (1992) that was originally made for the 3rd Istanbul Biennial. Mystic Transport deals with the migration of people from rural Turkey to its major cities, and the consequential development of kitsch aesthetics, a blending of “the high” and “the low.” Viewers are invited to move colorful Turkish quilts in mobile baskets around the exhibition space.

Amsterdam Denim City

Berfore the official opening of Blue Lab and House of Denim in Amsterdam in April, there will be a launching cocktail at Palais de Hollande. This cocktail, on the 25th of March, is a cooperation between FG-Group, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency and the Dutch Consulate. During the event the founder of House of Denim, James Veenhoff, will give a lecture. Blue Lab Amsterdam is world's first and only laundry innovation lab dedicated to denim R&D, sustainability research, wash design and laundry training.

Coffee-morning at the Consulate-General

On Tuesday the 21th of October the Consulate-General in corporation with the Nederlandse Vereniging Istanbul will host the first of a series of coffee-mornings for the Dutch community living in Istanbul.

Screening: The New Wilderness

The New Wilderness (De Nieuwe Wildernis) is a Dutch natural history documentary movie about the nature reserve Oostvaardersplassen in the Netherlands. The documentary shows animal life in the reserve during four seasons. On the occasion of the Turkish translation of this documentary, The New Wilderness will be screened in the Dutch Chapel of the Consulate General of the Netherlands. On April 16 the documentary will be screened in Turkish and on April 17 in Dutch.

King’s Day: Come Correct, Radio Antiqua and DJ Deniz

The Dutch Consulate General will celebrate the annual King’s Day on Monday the 27th of April. During this event there will be performances from dance group Come Correct, Radio Antiqua and DJ Deniz. Come Correct is a Dutch breakdance crew who dance in suits. Radio Antiqua will give away two performances in the beginning of the evening. The night will end with the beats of DJ Deniz, which will lead every guest to the orange dancefloor.

King’s Day: Two Dutch Porcelain Ladies

The program includes a performance of two "Dutch porcelain Ladies" on April 27 at the Marriot Hotel in Ankara during the King’s Day reception of the Embassy in Ankara. Two nostalgic ladies; it's like they are genuine Delft blue porcelain. Together they share with their audience the beauty of the Dutch culture.

Opus Amadeus Chamber Music Festival: Radio Antiqua

Between 27 and 30 April Radio Antiqua plays at the Opus Amadeus Chamber Music Festival. The concerts will take place in the St. Antoine Church and the Chapel of the Dutch Consulate General. Radio Antiqua is a Dutch group of five young professional musicians. Among other instruments, a violin, baroque bassoon, lute, baroque guitar, harpsichord, cello and organ are being used to play music from several classic musical eras.

Minus the Tiger

With the cooperation of CerModern and the EU Delegation in Ankara, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul are proud to announce a range of concerts of the Dutch indie/synth-pop group Minus The Tiger (MTT)

Having cut their teeth on 80’s new wave and 90’s pop, MTT has added deep bass and minimal drums for a more contemporary sound on their sophomore album “Years From Now”. It is a dark, pressing and lively album that reflects on a sense of loss, of time slipping away through your fingers. MTT mixes up influences from Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, The Knife and Portishead and draws inspiration from horror movies, ghost stories blending the otherworldly with universal feelings of anxiety, melancholy and hope.

On the 7th of May the group will perform at 20.30 o' clock in Ankara, at CerModern and on May 9 they will play at the Segmenler park to celebrate Europe Day. Tickets costs 20 TL via Mybilet and CerModern. Friday 8th of May they will play in Antalya. On the 10th of May they will play in Istanbul, at Haydarpasa Trainstation at 18.00 o'clock. This show has free entrance.

Dance Group 'de Stilte' at Eskisehir Child & Youth Festival

Playtime is fun yet serious at the same time. Once you’re totally immersed, anything can happen. Flying on the wings of their imagination, two girls and a boy embark on a standoff: because when there are three of you, who plays with whom?

From among the rolling eggs, the shuffling old woman and the flying cow, a game of friendship, loneliness and solidarity emerges.

Dance group 'de Stilte' will play 'The Flying Cow' on the occasion of the 9th International Eskisehir Child & Youth Festival 23 and 24th of May.

Kapok: The Unusual Jazz Trio

Kapok Jazz Trio combines elements from very different genres and traditions; the energy and compact form of pop and funk; the grooves and percussion of roots music; the interaction and abstract sounds of free improvisation and the phrasing and harmonies of jazz.

In May, the band will do a tour through Turkey. They will play at the Netherlands Consulate General in Istanbul (May 26), the Netherlands Embassy in Ankara (May 27), Adana (May 28) and Mersin (May 29). The artist themselves are looking forward to the tour, especially drummer Remco: ‘The Turkish people are master drumcymbal craftsmen and there is a lot to buy!’

Istanbul International Music Festival: New Dutch Academy

Palais de Hollande and the Dutch Embassy in Ankara have the privilege to welcome The New Dutch Academy (NDA) during the Istanbul Music Festival at the 6th of June. The New Dutch Academy (NDA), established in 2002, is an international award winning orchestra, specializing in early music, performing on authentic instruments. The NDA is known for its engaging and dynamic performances and particularly for bringing newly re-discovered 18th century works onto the concert platform. The NDA’s Orchestra and Chamber Soloists ensemble have performed at leading concert halls and arts festivals around the world with recent tours seeing the NDA perform throughout mainland Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Canada, the U.S.A., South East Asia and Australia

Beyoglu Intercultural Dialogues

6th Intercultural Art Dialogues Festival will take place from 9th of June through the 13th. Within the framework of the festival’s 6th edition both performing and plastic arts will take place and we aim to realize performances from  different countries.”

Anne Soldaat, who is called the best guitar player of the Netherlands, will perform here with his band nearby Sishane Metrostation.

Documentarist: Documentary Festival

This year the 8th edition of the Documentarist (Istanbul, Turkey) will be held. The Netherlands is supporting this festival by sponsoring the main-venue. There are several Dutch documentary features included in the festival. In addition the Dutch Consulate sponsors the Johan van der Keuken Award, who will be given to the a talented Turkish documentary maker.

The festival is for 8 years organized by the Eurasia Art Collective (Avrasya Sanat Kolektifi).

Iftar dinner, Culinary Diplomacy

An Iftar Dinner will be hosted at the Palais de Hollande on the 30th of June 2015. Muslims are fasting during the Ramadan month in Turkey. They broke the fasting during at the dinner called “Iftar”. To highlight the deep rooted friendship between the Netherlands and Turkey a fusion of the Dutch and Turkish culinary will be served to the invitees. TV programmer and documentary producer Wilco van Herpen will cooperate with the chef of the Palais de Hollande, Mr. Melik Altundag to prepare the menu. He will prepare asparagus soup and a warm plate including asparagus brought from the Netherlands. Mr. Altundag will prepare the main course and the dessert buffet. 

Teema is a successful singer representing multicultural character of the Netherlands abroad. She is one of the unique musicians making and performing Arabic Jazz music with the significant influence of the Dutch music education she went through in her early ages. Her performance perfectly fits in the concept of the IFTAR dinner attended by the high level public officials, business people and members of Turkish press.

Due to internal renovations in July and August the Consulate General has decided to hold a summer break. From September on events will be hosted again at the Palais de Hollande.

14th Istanbul Design Biennial – Of Kings and Consuls

Of Kings & Consuls is a side event of The Istanbul Biennial with a live performance. An evening of site-specific historically inspired performances by Dutch artists Allard van Hoorn and Marieke Warmelink. The performance will take place on September 3rd, 2015 at the Chapel of the Dutch Consulate.

Bach Anatolia

Bach Anatolia is a music project of Wim Selles from the Netherlands. Wim Selles is a music director and works at The Art University of Amsterdam. In this project Dutch and Turkish musicians meet. Western classical music played by professional Dutch musicians is mixed with Turkish musicians playing traditional Anatolian instruments. The musicians will record several songs in the chapel of the Dutch consulate in Istanbul between the 14th and 16th of September.

Lisztanbul

Lisztanbul is a unique live classical concert. The ensemble will start their tour in Bursa on October 12th. Istanbul will be visited on October 13th and Izmir on October 16th.  The last performance will be in Ankara (TBA). This tour is inspired by Franz Liszt, the musical legend from the 18th century. Mengjie Han, the Dutch prize winner of the Liszt Competition 2014, plays the piano. Han will perform a composition inspired by the visit of composer Franz Liszt to Istanbul. The audience will be shown an animated story recounting this visit by Turkish Soprano Gonca Gürses van Herpen.

Opening International Puppet Festival

October 13th the international puppet festival takes place in Istanbul. This 18th edition of the country’s biggest puppet festival brings international artists and local community together through a variety of performances, workshops, dialogues and other special events. The opening of the puppet festival takes place at the Dutch Consulate on October 13t h. Afterwards, there will be a reception with drinks and live music. During the evening there will be a concert by Liztanbul about the life story of Frans Liszt in the Chapel of the Dutch Consulate . Doors open at: 19:30. You are invited to join the reception.

Performance: The Little Blue Man

The Little Blue Man will come to Istanbul for the international puppet Festival. The act won the first prize in a  puppet master contest  broadcasted on Dutch television. One of the puppet masters also plays Tommy from Sesamstraat. The Little Blue Man will give a performance on how he wants to become an artist; however it is not sure whether he will succeed. He will perform on the 14th of October at 11:00 Kadikoy in Küçük Salon and 20:30 at the Institut Francais. The performance combines two stories of about 20 minutes.

André Rieu -  Ankara/Istanbul

On November 5(Ankara Arena) and November 7 (Ülker arena), André Rieu will be back in Turkey! Together with his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra and many soloist André Rieu will give you what you’ve come to expect from his performances: the maestro conducting his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra and playing his world-famous Stradivarius violin to create a colorful concert full of surprises. The repertoire ranges from romantic, emotional ballads to the most gorgeous and celebrated waltzes.

Turkey Innovation Week 2015

The Turkey Innovation Week 2015 is a gathering organized by TIM (Turkish Exporter’s Assembly) and aims to encourage, develop, and increase investments for innovation in Turkey. The event hosted more than 26,000 visitors last year, and welcomed many experts in technology, marketing, urban planning, and energy to share their knowledge and experience with participants.

For the years 2014 and 2015, the Netherlands will cooperate with TIM in both regional and national Innovation events.

In this year’s edition of the Turkey Innovation Week, there will be an adjacent Dutch program in approximately the first week of December.
 

Sinterklaas’ visit to the Consulate General

After a busy night on Pakjesavond, Sinterklaas will hop on his steamboat bound for Istanbul, where he will pay the Consulate General a visit.
